Leaders in Training (LIT) and Counsellors in Training (CIT)

Let your potential shine on.

Our LIT and CIT programs help young people grow from campers into confident leaders. Through teamwork, outdoor adventure, and hands-on learning, participants build the skills, character, and confidence needed to support others and take on future leadership roles.

YMCA Camp Belwood (Fergus) 

Day Program
Ages: 13–16
Cost: $550/2-week session  

*fee assistance available  

Belwood’s day-only LIT program builds leadership skills through sailing, archery, BMX biking, team challenges, and special events like the Windy T canoe race. 

 

Two levels let participants grow year after year. 

  

LIT Level 1 (Ages 13–15): Introduction to leadership and camp skills.  
 

LIT Level 2 (Ages 14–16): Advanced leadership application and teamwork.  

  

Note: This is a day program with no overnight components. Transportation options are available.

YMCA Camp Ki-Wa-Y
(St. Clements) 

Overnight Program  
Ages: Turning 15 in 2026
July Session: July 6–August 1, 2026
August Session: August 3–29, 2026
Cost: $3,310 + HST/month*
*fee assistance available  

At Ki-Wa-Y, LITs spend four weeks immersed in leadership development, outdoor adventure, and community life. Participants take part in high ropes, kayaking, canoeing, and traditional camp activities while working toward Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross certification. 

 

Stay in new yurts, build close friendships, and take meaningful steps toward future staff roles.

YMCA Camp Waabanaki (Huntsville) 

Overnight Program  

Ages: Turning 15 by July 6, 2026
July Session: July 6–August 1, 2026
August Session: August 3–29, 2026
Cost: $3,310 + HST/month*

*fee assistance available 

Waabanaki’s LIT program blends leadership development with unforgettable outdoor experiences. LITs build skills through canoe tripping, mountain biking, disc golf, and waterfront training, with the chance to complete Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. 

Participants stay in new yurts and take part in traditions that bring generations of Waabanaki leaders together.

How it Works

  1. Log in to your CampBrain account.  

  2. Select your desired camp and LIT session.

  3. Submit your application.

  4. You will receive an email confirming your application. 

All LIT applicants appear on a temporary waitlist while we prepare for the lottery. Results will be emailed on January 12, 2026. If accepted, a $200 deposit is due January 19, 2026.

Counsellors in Training (CIT)

Ages 16+ (turning 16 in the calendar year).
Cost: No cost. 

7-week commitment (Training Week+ 6 sessions) or a 9-week commitment (Training Week + 8 sessions).

CITs join the staff team and support counsellors in the cabin, during programs, and throughout daily routines. They gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and more than 40 community involvement hours. 

 

Training

  • Spring training weekend at Camp Ki-Wa-Y 

  • Full Staff Training Week: June 29-July 5
